Storyboard

For our storyboard, we will be taking pictures of images in each different screen and placing them in the correct position so it is visual.
This is so we will know exactly what we are doing when we are filming it.

Update..

As Sophia has been off school for 3 weeks I have not been able to make some vital decisions by myself therefore the final ideas post has only just been posted.

Monday 13th, we are starting to get our rough storyboard down in order to keep progressing on the project.

Final Locations of my house and the green screen have been decided.
Actors have also being decided as just me and sophia
No set dance routine. Bold Movements.

Ideasssssss...

Heart Rate Monitor
Film a heart rate monitor and make the beat in time with the music at the right height (amplitude?!)
We can then keep repeating that with lots of high lines close together on the part of the song when it says 'push push push'

Dance Routine
No routine made up, however bold movements repeated and replicated to make it look like there is more than one dancer.
Block colour background with different coloured outlines. Colours are going to be contrasting.

Eating Food
Animation of food
Cutting/chopping/eating food section by section
Apples, lollipops, bananas, strawberries, cherries, orange, ice cream in a cone, carrots

Pacman
We will recreate the game...pacman eating cherries. Will be in time with the music when going over the 'blobs'

In the Kitchen - Making Cakes
My Kitchen - Location
Tom and Jerry Cake Mix
Flour fight
Matching outfits - White Shorts, Long Pink Socks, Bright Pink Strappy top, Chef Hats
Film - stirring the mixture
adding mixture into the cake cases
going into oven
rising in the oven
getting out the oven
adding icing/cherries
Final Cakes !

Camera Angles

I watched a short film on Camera Techniques. From this I took some screen grabs of the camera shots, techniques and angles I want to use in my video.

Feedback...

After asking around a few people we came to the conclusion that our video would be exactly in the conventions of a music video.
However it is very predictable and we need to come up with a more suitable way of presenting the fruit within the video as unless it is exactly perfectly timed it will look very tacky and unfinished and we don't want this to happen.

Conventions and Forms of Music Videos

What is a convention?

A large gathering of people who share a common interest (from wikipedia)

For a music video this can change to be:
A genre of music which shares common features.
By this I mean each genre for music videos have certain features in common.
For a Dance video conventions are:
  • Fast
  • Always changing
  • Colourful
  • Have dance routines
  • Can have animated characters
  • Can have live action
Music Videos

"Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. Although the origins of music videos go back much further, they came into their own in the 1980s, when MTV's format was based around them. The term "music video" first came into popular usage in the early 1980s."

"Music videos use a range of styles of filmmaking, including animation, live action filming, documentaries, and non-narrative approaches such as abstract film. Some music videos blend different styles, such as animation and live action."

Our Ideas...

I am working as a pair with Sophia Wall.

Together we came up with a few ideas to make our video...
It will be related to food as we think after researching this will give us a good base to film objects around
- strawberry
- eating an apple
- peeling an orange
- chopping a carrot
- lollipop
- pacman game with aliens
- outline of dancer because here we can have different contrasting bright colours e.g. orange background, pink outline

Also text seems to work really well on dance videos...repeated words coming up on the screen e.g. PUSH PUSH PUSH

Heart Rate monitor ...zig zag lines.

Potential Target Audiences

For our music video we are targeting the age range from 17-24.
This is because of the general conventions of dance music videos.

We decided this age range after a lot of research into existing videos which are shown below.

Lyrics to our Video

[Push me
And then just touch me
Till I can get my
Satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction]

{Push me
And then just touch me
Till I can get my
Satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction}

[Push me
And then just touch me
Till I can get my
Satisfaction]

{Push me
And then just touch me
Till I can get my
Satisfaction}

[Push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push,
Push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push]
{Push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push,
Push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push}

[Push me
And then just touch me
Till I can get my satisfaction
Satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction,
Satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction]

[Push me
And then just touch me
Till I can get my
Satisfaction]

{Push me
And then just touch me
Till I can get my
Satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction,
Satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction}

{Push me
And then just touch me
Till I can get my
Satisfaction}

[Push me
And then just touch me
Till I can get my
Satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction]

{Push me
And then just touch me
Till I can get my
Satisfaction}

[Push me
And then just touch me
Till I can get my
Satisfaction]

Music Video Reviews

Disturbia by Rihanna

Genre: R&B

Based in an asylum.
I like the fact that the colours are blurry so you cannot see everything.
Lots of close up shots to show Rhiannas emotions especially at the start I really like this.

Flames are used to hide objects

I really like the idea they use in this video by using many different camera angles to make each shot look really different and random

CGI images used for the spider is scary but a good way to represent what is going on.
Objects used such as piano and prison bars add a really good effect on the audience as they can't see everything that is going on.

Towards the end a blue/yellow colour scheme is used which changes the whole effect of the film. I really like this idea of change to show the end of the production is arriving.

Because the Night by Cascada

Genre: Dance

Everything white, red rose stands out I really like this, it is really effective to watch. Shows importance of objects.
Changes of location quickly bedroom-dance club-stage etc very random but good way to show it is a dance video.

Lots of camera angles always with Cascada in the centre, think this is good and is similar to Rihannas as each shot shows something different.
Cascada going off in the car is very effective makes the audience want to know more...suspense is really good in music videos I really like this idea.

It does get very repetitive with lots of images of the audience and more random images could have been used to make it more effective.
No real ending to the video...just a use of phone I think this could be made better however it does show how she is feeling.

Now you're Gone by Basshunter

Genre: Dance

At home use of mobile with boy and girls seperate filming i think this is a really good way of presenting the first 30sec of the video, portrays the song very well.

Lots of linking of lyrics and objects even though it looks random it links really well I like this idea.
Shows both girl and boy with their friends getting ready to go out ..lots of camera angles makes audience interacted so they feel they know more than the actors.

Is effective with lots of different colour schemes to represent boy and girl. I think it is really important on choosing the right colour scheme for the right moment in the film I will take this into consideration when editing.

Use of fast/slow motion is a good idea and great to show time going by and the night going on.
Close up shots to show emotion is really effective helps the audience know how to feel.
Long shots used to set the scene so the audience are aware of what is going on.

Love is Gone by David Guetta

Genre: Dance

Close up showing emotion lets the audience know what to think
Is based in a cafe I really like random locations used for dance videos
At 1.39min music goes into slow motion...lets you see what is going on
Repetitive

I really like random images/shots used however I think this video is too random with no story told. It gets very confusing for the audience and is hard to know where to focus attention as everything is constantly changing.

Stronger by Kanye West

Genre: Hip Hop

Machinary sets the scene..is typical for a hip hop film
I like the way city lights are used to show time going quickly

lots of close up shots focusing on Kanye West is good for the target audience to see what is going on.
There are long shots of motorbikes following them setting the scene I like this idea

The background shots show different colours with lots of rotating objects moving.
Close ups show anger at around 3min...with girls face faded on the wall behind Kanye giving an emotional effect for the audience I think this is really good.

Pace change keeps the audience watching in suspense! also keeps in time with the music.

Perfect Exceeder by Mason vs Princess Superstar

Genre: Dance

I like the start of this video as it is very similar to Satisfaction with a distinguished beat through the song.

Based in a gym with lots of different camera angles I like this.
Although I like the song, the video is the same all the way through and doesn't really change.
There is not a lot to say about it.
If the location was to change and include more random imagery I would enjoy watching it a lot more.

Music Video

I am going to be making a Music Video.
My Video will be based on the song Satisfaction by Benny Benassi.

In order to do this I will research into other artists videos to gather ideas on what makes a good music video.
I will outline my plans throughout each stage of this project showing step by step progress.
